The company B2C Europe is currently conducting trials with drone delivery in the Netherlands, working with Parcer. The drones deliver parcels to consumers' front doors and also pick up orders that need to be returned.

Customers can opt for drone delivery when ordering, which will be carried out the same day. The drones pick up the order at B2C Europe's distribution centre and fly autonomously to the customer. In doing so, they navigate by GPS.

Special mailbox
Customers do have to use a special mailbox in which the orders can be delivered. The drone can open this box remotely to deliver the package, and the customer in turn receives a notification that the package has been delivered. The drone can also be called if an order needs to be returned to the distribution centre.

Legislation keeps drone on the ground
For now, it remains an experiment because B2C is running into regulations regarding flying drones, which means the drones cannot yet be used on a large scale for commercial purposes. Only when the law regarding flying drones is amended can the service be rolled out further.
