Belgium's toll system does not remain uncontroversial. After the introduction was met with much opposition, the On Board Unit in trucks is now being investigated. The device is needed for toll collection, but appears to be potentially harmful to health.
The European Agency for Occupational Health and Safety, OSHA for short, has been ordered by the Labour and SP groups in the European Parliament to investigate. Drivers are said to have complained of headaches, sleep problems and nausea at the time they are in the cab.
Multiple complaints
The European Parliament is not the only party to have sounded the alarm. Belgian trade unions have now also complained to the Belgian government about the unhealthy equipment. Dutch drivers also complained about the symptoms recently, reports TLN.
One charging system
The Labour and SP parties and the Belgian trade unions would like to see the problems resolved and also hope for a single system by which tolls can be paid in European countries.
