Bouw Logistic Services, specialist in wine logistics, is to mechanise its new fulfilment warehouse. Conveyor systems and pick stations with pick2light technology will be installed in the warehouse in Gorredijk. The overall control is done via Xtend's Arrow Warehouse Magagement System.

Bouw Logistics Services acquired Baarsma Logistiek last year, which it says made Bouw Logistics Services the market leader in the B2C market. According to the logistics specialist, a good time to scrutinise its future development and modus operandi. "Following the outcome of this study, it was decided to mechanise extensively," Bouw said in a press release. "In the new warehouse in Gorredijk, all the usual processes will take place (inbound, storage, outbound, transport). Value Added Services, such as excise administration, repackaging, labelling, pricing and assembly, are also part of the service package," the press release reads."

Bouw pulled out three months to find the right partner for the mechanisation job and finally ended up with Costo. "Costo had the right experience with this kind of logistics project," explains Patrick Endeman, Logistics Manager at Bouw. The company believes that the new system will not only allow it to improve output, quality and flexibility, but will also reduce the number of forklifts and FTEs needed in the warehouse.

The warehouse covers an area of 10,000 square metres, with space for around 3,000 items on around 7,000 pallet spaces. Forty employees work in the warehouse. Bouw Logistics expects to be operational there in June 2017.
