CB Logistics will deliver the bulk of books in Amsterdam CO2-neutrally. The logistics provider will bring the books to a parcel point of last-mile-serviceParcls, which will then cycle to customers by E-bike.

CB's ambition is to reduce CO2 emissions and particulate matter by 30 and 70 per cent respectively by 2020. "Especially in inner cities, this is important," says Arjan de Jong, CB's transport manager, "The cooperation with Parcls helps with this. Moreover, together we ensure that parcels are delivered even earlier in the day."

According to Parcls, books lend themselves perfectly to transport by bicycle. The cooperation mainly concerns smaller deliveries, e.g. to associations, foundations or authors. Parcls now has three branches in Amsterdam: in de Pijp, the Olympic Quarter and the Spaarndammer neighbourhood. "We want to expand this year with more parcel points, once they are there, we will be able to deliver books in that area too in a CO2-neutral way," says Jori Spitz of Parcls.

Parcls and CB will run a one-year trial from 21 March. If successful, the trial will be extended and expanded.
