CEVA Logistics is going to custom-pack with Neopost's CVP-500. With the new packing machine, the logistics service provider hopes to combat wasted packing space.
CEVA Logistics manager Bart Hammen told NOS that the new machine should bring the necessary cost savings, despite the purchase price being between five hundred thousand and one million euros. Indeed, previously CEVA packed everything by hand. "Some seven to eight hundred thousand parcels a year will go through the machine," he said.
Neopost, which developed the CVP-500 together with Docdata, has so far sold ten machines and expects sales to double next year. The company already scored high last year with its packaging innovation, as the CVP-500 packs fully automatically into a minimal box that saves volume, cardboard and padding material. This benefits transport companies, especially in the United States, which calculate shipping rates based on the size of a parcel. In the Netherlands, you often still pay based on weight.
