China has thrown open its market to foreign courier services FedEx, Yamato Transport, Overseas Courier Service and Kerry Logistics. It is the first time since 2012 that foreign couriers have received new licences to deliver in the country.
E-commerce growth
The Chinese online market is booming. In the first eleven months of 2014, 12.3 billion parcels were delivered. That is why the government has decided to attract new foreign parcel delivery companies. Previously, only the foreign services UPS and FedEx were active in China. FedEx’s licence has now been extended to cover twenty more cities. However, the selected operators are not permitted to deliver post, as China Post holds the exclusive rights to this service.
