Coca-Cola's high-rise warehouse in Antwerp is no longer satisfactory. The soft drink producer is investing 13.7 million euros in the construction of a second warehouse.

In the automated high-rise warehouses, Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP), Coca-Cola's bottler, stores bottles of soft drinks that are later transported to retailers across Belgium. At the Wilrijk, Antwerp site, the company produces 413 million litres of soft drinks annually, accounting for 21,000 pallets.

Extra storage capacity and half pallets

Due to lack of space, part of the bottles have to be moved to external parties. Therefore, CCEP has decided to expand with a second 12-storey warehouse with a capacity of 9,400 pallets. At the new location, unlike the old warehouse, the soft drink giant can also stock half pallets.

50,000 fewer transport kilometres

CCEP expects to save 50,000 transport kilometres a year thanks to the new high-rise warehouse. Construction will start in January 2019. The new site is expected to be completed in early 2020.
