The German reporting and documentation requirement regarding the minimum wage has now actually been relaxed. Since 1 August, a transport company no longer needs to report regular drivers driving in Germany or keep records of their working hours in the following cases:

  1. if the regular monthly wage exceeds 2958 euros gross;
  2. if the employee has been employed for more than one year and earns more than 2,000 euros gross per month.

However, there are conditions attached to this. The employer must be able to prove the above requirements during an inspection. This is best done by having employees working in Germany bring along a pay slip and proof of payment. For pay of 2,000 euros, this must be taken for the past 12 months, EVO said.

A minimum wage of 8.50 euros has applied in Germany since the beginning of this year. This rule does not apply to drivers in transit, but it does apply to drivers loading and unloading in Germany.
