Coolblue posted record sales of 1.5 billion euros in 2019. The retailer invested heavily in its own infrastructure. For example, bicycle service CoolblueFietst was expanded to five additional cities.
331,000 parcels were delivered by bike in 2019, accounting for 80 per cent of deliveries in 12 major cities. Next year, the e-tailer aims to triple this number; it hopes to cycle to customers 1 million times by 2020.
Last year, Coolblue invested in four new shops in Tilburg, Haarlem, Arnhem and Ghent. Notable was the expansion with solar panels. Coolblue started selling and installing solar panels at people's homes. It also used electric vans more often for deliveries and started offering white goods subscriptions.
Those steps helped drive record sales of almost 1.5 billion euros, an increase of 130 million euros compared to 2018. Operating profit (EBITDA) rose 28 per cent to 34.5 million euros.
