Etailer Coolblue has added 36 thousand square metres to its distribution centre in Tilburg. The DC on business park Vossenberg-West II now covers around 60 thousand square metres. The expansion allows Coolblue to also store white goods, which have been delivered by the company itself since last year.
Coolblue wanted to keep the entire logistics process in its own hands and therefore started delivering white goods in October 2015 under the name CoolblueBezorgt. "We are happy that from now on we also know who is coming to your home. We can now confidently let our delivery people drop by your grandmother's house," said managing director Pieter Zwart about the new service. With the introduction of CoolblueBezorgt, Coolblue also had to open additional logistics hubs in the Netherlands and expand its distribution centre in terms of capacity.
In one of the new halls, white goods are stored double-deep at a height of over 10 metres in pallet racks with wire mesh shelves from SSI Schäfer (around 9,400 pallet spaces), with goods accessible from both sides of the aisle. Here, the order picker uses a reach truck with white goods clamp at height, allowing the white goods to be transported and stored without using pallets.
