Logistics service provider Dachser has taken a majority stake in its Irish partner Johnston Logistics. With the purchase, Dachser aims to strengthen its logistics network in northwestern Europe.
Dachser has been working with the family-owned Irish company since 2007, which specialises in the transport of dangerous goods in addition to groupage transport. Johnston Logistics has 150 employees and posted a turnover of €24 million in 2016. The company has three logistics centres in Ireland (Rathcoole, Cork and Limerick), totalling 40,000 square metres. "We have acquired an established family business that we have worked with for a long time. We see this investment as an opportunity to further improve our important European network," explains Michael Schilling, coo Road Logistics at Dachser. In a press release, Dachser states that it sees Ireland as one of the most important logistics regions due to its huge economic growth.
Albert Johnston remains a shareholder and managing director of Dachser's new subsidiary in Ireland.
