Logistics service provider wants to take care of the last mile with smaller, electric trolleys. It is currently testing small electric trolleys in France that ride along with a larger truck and cover the last kilometre to the customer.
The trolleys can carry up to 650 kilograms per axle. With that, they can, for example, deliver an entire pallet to a downtown shop. The little crane on board the truck can lift up to 600 kilograms, allowing the pallet to be dropped off at the customer's door. The truck's battery lasts up to 10 hours.
Dachser has tested the electric trolleys in port city La Rochelle and is now conducting a trial in Paris, a city where much progress can still be made on the last mile. According to Dachser, 100,000 distribution trucks drive around Paris every day. With more versatility, the number of truck movements could be reduced.
