Damen Shipyards Gorinchem has implemented a new scanning application. The shipbuilder has also opted for new hardware for part of the logistics process.

The combination of new software and hardware should ensure that Damen's service level is increased and productivity rises. Damen is rolling out the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-N1 rugged handheld across its various shipyards worldwide. Initially, no new handhelds were in the planning, but during the project, the need for new hardware became increasingly urgent, the company says.

Damen was looking for an all-in-one device where users could have access to a tablet, a smartphone and a barcode scanner in a compact design. Arjan van Doorn, Solution Manager for logistics at Damen Shipyards Gorinchem: "Our choice for this new solution was aimed at improving connectivity and capabilities with handhelds. The predecessors did not have 4G capabilities. With the new handhelds, everything can be processed 'on the spot' without having to look for a WiFi spot with a stable connection."
