DB Schenker sees its chance now that the end of freight forwarder Damco is in sight. Last week, Maersk announced a major reorganisation, indicating it was quitting the Damco brand, and DB Schenker is now preying on its competitor's customers.

Maersk has been trying to make a global player out of Dutch barge brand Damco since 2009. A new reorganisation sees it forced to quit the brand, with the operations of freight forwarder Damco being absorbed into the parent holding company from 1 October.

DB Schenker approaches Damco customers

With a so-called Stability Package, DB Schenker hopes to take over its competitor's customers. Through this package, Damco customers can continue their short-term contracts, with a term of up to two months, with DB Schenker under the same conditions. Companies with long-term transport contracts with Damco will receive new offers, which DB Schenker says will be "made on a priority basis".

DB Schenker: 'Removing uncertainty'

The logistics provider says it is responding with the proposal to the turmoil following Maersk's announcement. Thorsten Meincke, responsible for Air and Ocean Freight on the Executive Board at DB Schenker: "Stable conditions create stable supplychains: that's what DB Schenker stands for. The last thing shippers need right now is even more uncertainty. We are making an offer to all companies looking for long-term security and reliability."
