The home food delivery market is growing at a rapid pace. €3.2 billion worth of food will be delivered to homes in 2018.
That is an increase of 20.1 per cent compared to 2017, the FoodService Instituut Nederland figures in the FSIN Dossier Delivery 2019.
The report distinguishes between the foodservice market (meal delivery) and the food retail market. Meal delivery from the out-of-home market is expected to account for a turnover of over EUR 1.7 billion, a growth of 13.4 per cent. Players in the food retail channel, such as online supermarkets, are expected to realise a turnover of EUR 1.5 billion (+29 per cent) in 2018. In both markets, delivery is growing faster than takeaway.
For 2019 too, The Food Research Company expects an increase of over 20 per cent in food delivery, with delivery from food retail growing with an expected 31 per cent increase in sales in 2019. Within foodservice, we also count on a solid boost. With a turnover growth of over 11 per cent, delivery in this channel will reach a total turnover of almost EUR 2 billion next year.
