Dutch companies can from now on submit their safety innovations for the award from testing and certification company DEKRA. The competition has three categories: transport safety, occupational safety and home safety.

The award ceremony has been set up in cooperation with the German economic magazine WirtschafsWoche and the German Ministry of Economic Affairs. Although the award is presented in Germany, the competition is the perfect opportunity for Dutch companies targeting the German market to draw attention to their business, the organisers write. "The digital transformation of the economy and society is accelerating," said Stefan Kölbl, CEO of DEKRA. "Digitalisation requires new technical concepts to ensure that equipment and products do not pose health and safety risks in the future. This is why we are constantly looking for ideas, initiatives and processes to prevent accidents and make the world a safer place."

General concepts instead of products
Companies can submit their innovations until 16 September 2016. The jury consists of a panel of internal and external experts. They will identify, based on a number of criteria, a number of best practice projects in Europe that make a lasting contribution to improving safety. The jury is not looking for products, but overall concepts. Criteria for nomination include effectiveness, simplicity, efficiency, innovation, sustainability, transferability and acceptance.

In previous years, companies such as Airbus, Eaton Industries, EBM-papst, EnBW, Voith and Volkswagen went home with the award. The award ceremony will take place on 25 October 2016 in Düsseldorf.
