Logistics service provider DFDS has developed an app that allows drivers to see when a trailer is ready for pick-up, or when a ship is arriving or departing. "This allows drivers to plan their day and work better," he said.
DFDS operates cargo ships between freight terminals across Europe where a driver is always needed to take trucks and trailers to and from the terminals.
"That's why we decided to develop an app that will make drivers' lives easier," said Ralph Bosveld, DFDS operations director at the Vlaardingen, Rotterdam terminal. Besides tracking a trailer, drivers can also check if there is a booking for the trailer, or get help finding the right terminal through the app. DFDS says it is the first in the industry to develop and offer a cargo terminal app for drivers.
"This means the driver can plan his day and work better. It also allows him to make better use of his time, including through reduced waiting time. This is a step towards digitalisation of our services, which will continue at full speed," says Ralph Bosveld.
