DHL wants to expand its reach and is therefore expanding in Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic States. The parcel deliverer has formed partnerships with several postal services in the countries.
These are non-exclusive partnerships, with which DHL wants to strengthen its service offering in the international e-commerce market. Indeed, the countries in northern Europe are expected to experience strong growth, as the figure below shows. The seven countries in which DHL plans to expand its network will account for 20 billion euros in online sales by 2020. Especially in the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), e-commerce is on the rise in the coming years.
By the end of 2016, DHL expects to operate in the countries with 6,500 parcel points in shops and transhipment centres. DHL aims for its presence to enable online shops to have shorter delivery times within Europe, during the week and on weekends.
