DHL Supply Chain has inaugurated a new distribution centre in Nieuwegein. In the new DC, intended to serve companies in automotive and technology, DHL Supply Chain plans to use robotics.
The new distribution centre covers an area of 23,000 square metres and houses the activities DHL Supply Chain carried out at its old location in Utrecht. The new warehouse offers more space and is more modern than in Utrecht. Among other things, DHL supplies ABS brake discs and other accessories there, and handles the delivery of Volvo Genuine Parts and Accessories to Volvo dealers. Some of these deliveries can be planned in advance and others have to be made urgently on the same day.
Testing with robotics
"With this state-of-the-art building, we can serve our customers even better while further shaping our growth ambition," says Jan-Willem de Jong, Business Unit Director Technology & Automotive at DHL Supply Benelux. "At this site in Nieuwegein, we can grow with customers, launch new customers and deploy innovative solutions. For example, in the coming months we will be testing with robotics which can further professionalise the work again."
The new premises will accommodate two hundred employees. Developed by Prologis and leased by DHL, the warehouse brings Prologis' portfolio in Utrecht to over 100,000 square metres.
