DHL Supply Chain is to test an Internet of Things (IoT) application at three locations with which it expects to improve the efficiency and safety of its logistics operation.
DHL Supply Chain is testing the technology in warehouses in the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. For this, it is working with IT specialist Cisco and startup Conduce.
Scanners and sensors on material handling equipment and a warehouse management system will allow DHL to monitor its logistics operation in real time. The data is converted into a graphical visualisation, giving DHL instant insight into potential areas for improvement. "By monitoring the operation in real time, instead of after the fact, we can adjust processes or warehouse layout immediately," says Markus Voss COO at DHL Supply Chain.
DHL says it is committed to digitising supply chain. "Together with Cisco and Conduce, we are integrating innovative solutions and building tomorrow's digital supply chain. This changes the way we collect, analyse and use data. Ultimately, it changes the way we work."
