Parcel service DPD is installing a sorting system at its new location in Eindhoven region that will double its parcel throughput.
The new sorting system, the LS-4000 CB sorter comes from intralogistics manufacturer Beumer Group. The state-of-the-art system can process up to 50,000 parcels per hour. That is more than double the current capacity in Best.
DPD's new site in Oirschot, near Eindhoven, will act as the main location for the company's Dutch operations. The 'HUB Eindhoven' will be operational from 2019. DPD will then move from Best to Oirschot. The new site covers an area of 23,000 square metres and will be used 24 hours a day.
DPD and the Beumer Group have entered into a ten-year partnership with the purchase of the sorting machine. Besides supplying and installing the machine, Beumer Group is responsible for maintenance. The purchase of the sorting machine was completed earlier than the purchase of the land near Eindhoven, as the design of the sorting machine is leading the design of the new building.
