EVO and export association Fenedex want job creation in logistics and trade to be high on the political agenda. That is why they are today presenting to all political parties a ten-point plan for more investment in the sectors. The organisations want the parties to include the points in their election programmes for the 2017 Lower House elections.
The parties in the Lower House are currently writing their election manifestos for the elections taking place next year. According to EVO and Fenedex, this is a good time to present the ten-point plan.
The items focus mainly on promoting trade with Europe and the rest of the world. This is necessary as the Dutch economy would depend on it. EVO and Fenedex argue that the Dutch owe 69 per cent of their income to exports. Therefore, the organisations want, among other things, that borders in Europe remain open for goods transport. EVO and Fenedex additionally propose the following points:
- Conclude a good trade agreement with the United States
- Help improve cargo handling at Schiphol and Port of Rotterdam
- Help inspectorates work better with each other and with companies
- Invest in physical and digital infrastructure
The interest groups speak out against protectionist measures taken in response to turbulent global politics, including Russian sanctions and the refugee issue. Instead, the government should keep the Netherlands' logistics network at a high level to keep the business climate in the Netherlands attractive for foreign companies.
