Globalisation is making logistics and trade increasingly intertwined. To capitalise on that development, EVO and Fenedex have since last week formed a new entrepreneurs' association: evofenedex.

The association represents the interests of companies with a focus on logistics or international trade. According to evofenedex, it has 15,000 members, comprising traders, manufacturers and exporters. Commenting on the reason behind the merger of the organisations, chairman Steven Laks says: “In a turbulent era in which production processes and economic powers are shifting globally, in which we are seeing a growing trend towards trade quotas and sanctions, and in which digitalisation and automation are on the rise, it is particularly important that logistics and export interests act in unison. The strength of the Netherlands rests in part on these two pillars.”

According to Managing Director Machiel van der Kuijl, Dutch companies, even if they do not operate internationally, have to deal with global developments. "A bridge with hairline cracks inhibits the trade of a paint manufacturer in Rotterdam. A rammed weir slows down the production process of an oil trader in Tilburg. Problems at an Asian shipping company cause empty shelves in a Heerenveen department store. The cheap British pound causes fewer exports at the florist in Alkmaar. In this world, a good knowledge of logistics and trade makes all the difference."
