The cabinet should invest in the Netherlands' winning duo: logistics and export. This is what shippers' organisation EVO and export association Fenedex argue in a response to the throne speech.

Smart logistics and strong infrastructure
Now that the Dutch economy is on the up again, EVO and Fenedex believe it is important that we maintain employment levels and attract jobs to our country. That is why the government must focus on smarter supply chains for city centres and a strong infrastructure, including digital infrastructure. The organisations also argue that smarter logistics – including further digitalisation and the completion of the single market – must be one of the key pillars during the Netherlands’ Presidency of the European Union in 2016.

No protectionist measures
In the coming period, the government must above all avoid focusing on introducing protectionist measures, now that turbulent global politics are also affecting Dutch businesses. EVO and Fenedex are referring here to the refugee flows and the Russian sanctions. At this moment, the government would do well to look outwards.

Cooperation between government and the business community
It is precisely trade missions to emerging economies and the conclusion of new bilateral and European trade agreements that can strengthen the position of trading and manufacturing companies. This requires close cooperation between the government and businesses.
