NHTV Breda has launched an excellence programme for talented logistics students. The students from the Academy of Urban Planning Logistics and Mobility who participate in the programme will do internships at companies such as Samsung, Penske Logistics, Yacht and UPS. Each student receives a bonus of EUR 4,000 and has the opportunity to continue working at the company after the internship period.

A first batch of 12 students have been selected in recent months. "During the selection, we drew up a profile of the students, which we now also use when matching them with companies. This involves not only the students' achieved results, but also their motivation and competences, such as analytical and creative skills and result orientation. During the third and fourth year, the progress of these students is monitored," said Albert Mandemakers of NHTV. Each student will work for a period of two years at some of the nine participating companies: Samsung, Penske Logistics, Schenker Logistics Netherlands, Yacht, UPS, APL Logstics (part of the KWE group), Amgen, DHL and Kuehne & Nagel. After graduation, students will have the opportunity to work at one of these companies.

Low recruitment costs
According to NHTV, the students are not obliged to take a job with the participating companies. Conversely, companies are not obliged to offer jobs to the top talents. "The aim of this programme is to bring companies into contact with talented students in logistics earlier. This also reduces the companies' recruitment costs, because recruiting new staff costs a lot of money. And for the students, it is of course a reward for performing well during their studies," says Mandemakers. Participating companies pay 4,000 euros per student over two years for their participation in this programme. This amount is paid to the student in tranches in the form of an extra bonus on his or her internship allowance, as compensation during the graduation period and when the diploma is obtained.
