Exotec has equipped DSV's logistics centre in Venlo with the storage and order picking system Skypod. The system accommodates as many as 100,000 totes and trays, with around 100 robots handling the inbound and outbound process. Logistics service provider DSV uses the system for order processing for various retailers.
The Skypod system enables DSV to quickly scale up throughput and storage density without major structural modifications. For example, if demand or product range changes, DSV can quickly respond to the changing conditions.
The logistics provider says this allows it to consistently meet strict SLA requirements, control operational costs and maintain resilience during peak times. The operation, including a mezzanine for returns, uses additional functionalities such as automatic opening, closing and labelling of boxes.
