German Fiege is moving into V&D's former distribution centre in Nieuwegein. The logistics service provider rents an area of 27,000 square metres, more than half of the property.
The distribution centre of property company WDP stood empty for over a year after V&D had to close its doors due to bankruptcy. Fiege concluded a one-and-a-half-year contract with WDP.
It is still unclear which of Fiege's customers will occupy the building. The logistics provider sees the DC at Het Klooster business park in Nieuwegein as a strategic hub. From here, it wants to supply various domestic customers.
V&D had been renting the BREEAM-certified distribution centre from WDP since 2012. After it became clear in February 2016 that a relaunch was out of the question for V&D, the distribution centre's inventory was also auctioned off at digital auction house Troostwijk. The systems mainly came from SSI Scäfer.
