Grocery delivery company Flink is to make its dark stores more attractive to the neighbourhood, turning them into 'Neighbourhood Hubs'. The Flink location in Alkmaar is first up and has been given a complete restyling and new interior. This sets the tone for what hubs could look like in the future.

The BuurtHub in Alkmaar features a new ordering and payment kiosk for on-the-spot grocery shopping. After placing the order, the Flink team will pick, pack and give away the products within minutes. Visitors to the hub receive a fixed 10 per cent discount on their groceries as delivery costs are saved.

Extra services

Residents, entrepreneurs and other visitors can also go there for extra services. For instance, you can go there to inflate and repair a bicycle tyre, collect and deliver postal packages and a defibrillator has been installed. By making these adjustments, Flink is responding to the needs of the area.

Robin Kiesler, managing director of Flink Netherlands: "As a good neighbour, we are in full discussion and contact with the area around our locations. We have now looked at how we can be an even better part of the neighbourhood for each location."

In 40 municipalities

Flink currently operates in more than 40 Dutch municipalities. In addition to locations in mixed neighbourhoods, customers can order their daily groceries via the app and Flink website. The wide range of more than 2,500 products makes ordering via Flink an attractive alternative to shopping through the traditional supermarket for more and more Dutch people.

Flink is growing solidly. Customers are ordering more and more products via Flink and the average order amount is now well over 30 euros.
