Demand for storage and distribution space has risen sharply over the past two months. Halls above 10,000 square metres are particularly in demand.

This is according to figures from Funda Business. Speaking to BNR, CEO Quintin Schevernels stated that the number of enquiries to business brokers has doubled in the past few months. Retailers and service providers are said to be eagerly looking for extra storage space due to the growth of e-commerce. The demand for large halls of more than 10,000 square metres stands out. The Rotterdam and Eindhoven regions are particularly in demand.

Schevernels says he is surprised by the new figures. "Those are from the past two months, so that also requires some further investigation from our perspective, but it is very striking. I have a feeling that we will have some excitement here in the coming years."

By this, the CEO is referring to the structural shortage of logistics space. This may be reflected in prices. "That has already happened in recent years; this continuous tension between supply and demand has an effect on the price. As a property developer, when you hear these kinds of figures, I can imagine that you think: this was already an interesting market, maybe it has become even more interesting."
