Fource Logistics is building an XXL distribution centre of more than 50,000 square metres in Berken and Rodenrijs. The logistics service provider for car companies currently operates from four different distribution centres, but is merging them into a central DC.
Heembouw will start construction of the building in January, commissioned by owner Union Investment. The new distribution centre is nicknamed 'The Bridge', referring to the central entrance on the first floor. This central square houses almost all support facilities, such as offices, changing rooms, canteen and training rooms.
Fully automated shuttle system
The building includes 2,400 square metres of office space and 49,000 square metres of warehouse space. A fully automated shuttle system is used for order picking. The distribution centre is controlled by a new warehouse management system. In this way, Fource Logistics says it can take its services to the next level.
DC operational by the end of 2020
The logistics site will receive sustainability label BREEAM excellent. The roof will be fitted with solar panels, making the building completely self-sufficient. Initial delivery is scheduled for mid-2020. Work will then start on completing the fully automatic shuttle system in the warehouse. Fource Logistics aims to be operational in Berken en Rodenrijs by the end of 2020.
