Gefco Benelux opens three new distribution centres in the Netherlands to expand its spare parts operation.
The logistics provider's first warehouse was recently opened in Zaandam and covers some 3,500 m2. From here it will handle storage, picking and distribution for the rest of the Dutch market.
The second distribution centre in Hoogeveen is 4500 m2 in size, while the third distribution centre in Waalwijk will be opened at the end of March. The latter is the largest and covers some 5500 m2. The distribution centres store spare parts for the automotive market. From the new distribution centres, Gefco Benelux expects to supply spare parts to 1,000 car dealers.
PSA
The company recently closed a billion-dollar deal with PSA, the parent company with Peugeot. The company says the opening of the distribution centres is separate from this. PSA decided to divide spare parts distribution among small distribution centres in Europe in order to increase responsiveness. Gefco was awarded the contract for the Dutch market.
Despite the two businesses being separate, Romain Leblanc, Finished Vehicle Logistics Director of Gefco Benelux, cites the three new warehouses as an advantage. 'The first warehousing platforms in the Netherlands place Gefco in an ideal position to further expand its logistics offering in the region,' Leblanc told Logistiek.nl
