A major check in the Benelux on trucks has resulted in many fines. Of the 115 lorries checked, 45 were in breach: more than 40 per cent.
The trucks were checked for tachograph fraud and manipulation, compliance with driving and rest periods and on-board documents. The check was a collaboration between the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport in Belgium, the Netherlands' Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport and Customs in Luxembourg. Trucks were checked in all three countries.
Liege Convention
The aim of the cooperation was to share knowledge between inspectorates to achieve greater uniformity in checks. Inspectors from other countries were also present. Under the Liège Convention, inspections were carried out jointly. That treaty, signed in 2014, focused on better cooperation between the three countries for monitoring and enforcement of the European Road Transport Regulation.
Of the trucks in violation, 19 were from the Netherlands, 19 from Luxembourg and seven from Belgium.
