H&M wants to transfer its logistics operation to Germany. Its distribution centre in Tiel is therefore going to be closed.

This reports De Gelderlander. H&M moved into the Tiel distribution centre in 2015. Supplies basically took place from Hamburg, but the DC in the Netherlands helped the fashion retailer to respond faster to demand.

The retailer is now revisiting that decision. "We are continuously examining and evaluating whether the current set-up of our logistics is appropriate for today's market. We do this to ensure that we have the right product in the right place at the right time," says a spokesperson.

The fashion retailer talks about a 'proposed decision'. So the decision has not yet been finalised. Employees in Tiel have already been informed. It is unclear what the exact consequences will be for them. "We will be the first to inform them of all developments at all times."

The Swedish fashion chain announced a large number of shop closures last month. 250 of its 5,000 shops worldwide will close. H&M saw its sales fall 16 per cent in the third quarter. Profits also fell. The falling figures were largely caused by the corona crisis. The retailer had to close shops worldwide during the pandemic.
