Courier UPS is being sustainable. This month, the company takes its hundredth electronic car into service. It is the type P45E, which is clearly recognisable by its UPS design. The new car is just slightly smaller than UPS's other electric variant: the P80E.
UPS will use the new vehicle in Paris. In the French capital, smaller and manoeuvrable vehicles are needed because the streets are crowded and in some cases narrow. The P45E, with a payload of 3.5 tonnes, is perfect for that, UPS expects.
Mercedes
The van is an existing Mercedes bus, but is being unbuilt into an electrically powered vehicle especially for UPS. Since 2010, the car, known to Mercedes as the type P80E, has been circulating mainly in Germany.
European cities
UPS is also using the electric cars in other European cities. For example, six vans drive around Amsterdam and four can be found in Rotterdam. Here UPS also uses the P80E type with a payload of 7.5 tonnes. The vehicles are deployed in Europe's inner cities and can travel around 100 kilometres. Besides the electric cars, UPS also has some hybrid three-wheelers in their fleet.
