Manufacturer Hörmann has expanded its existing warehouse by 2,700 square metres. By working with narrower aisles and reach trucks, storage capacity could be increased by 30 per cent.
Hörmann Alkmaar, part of the German Hörmann Group, manufactures dock equipment for Europe, North America and Asia, developing and manufacturing dock levellers, dock shelters and related products at Hörmann's North Holland facility. Positive developments in the market resulted in increased production, and at the same time led to problems with storage capacity, the company writes in a press release. Partly because the plant produces exclusively to order and delivers only on demand, the warehouse was forced to expand.
Hörmann worked with Dexion to redesign the warehouse, with the extension of the premises being used for the storage of dock levellers. In the existing hall, Dexion installed cantilever racking with a height of 6.8 metres on the vacated 1,800 square metres. The cantilever racks are fitted with slatted floors, so that both pallets and long goods can be stored. In addition, the parties decided to work in narrower aisles using reach trucks and side loaders. This provided Hörmann with 30 per cent extra storage capacity.
The revamped warehouse has been operational since the beginning of 2019.
