Fashion group Inditex is building an ironing centre next to its yet-to-be-realised distribution centre in Lelystad. The chain already owned a 35-hectare plot and has bought another 2.5 hectares of land for the ironing centre.
The Stentor knows.The Spanish parent group of chains such as Zara and Pull & Bear is investing €100 million in the construction of the distribution centre at Lelystad Airport Businesspark (LAB). The distribution point will have an area of 170,000 square metres and should serve to support the central distribution centre in Spain.
Most of Inditex's clothes are delivered from factories in Asia. After arriving in Lelystad, the garments will be ironed in a special centre - for which 2.5 hectares of land have been bought - before being transported to the shops wrinkle-free.
Distribution centre operational in 2019
It is the first time Inditex has opened a DC outside of home country Spain. The move should create at least 400 jobs in Flevoland, which could double depending on market developments and business capacity. The first vacancies are now online. In 2019, Inditex aims to be partly operational in Lelystad, simultaneously with the opening of the nearby airport. From 2020, the building will be fully operational. The construction aims to achieve LEED Gold certification, the US sustainability certificate.
