There is high demand for highly skilled buyers. Yacht's labour market analysis shows that the number of vacancies for buyers rose by more than twenty per cent in the first quarter of 2016. This mainly involves temporary, interim or self-employed employment.
Procurement consultants are particularly popular. The demand for consultants rose by 75 per cent in the first quarter. The implementation of the new European procurement directives would contribute to this strong growth. This calls for an adjustment of procurement policies, leaving government organisations in great need of procurement consultants.
Labour market tightness
The demand for buyers has been growing strongly since 2015. According to Hilbrand van der Kooi, Business Development Manager SCM&P at Yacht, this continued growth is therefore leading to further tightness in the labour market. "The challenge in the labour market lies in increasing the pool of highly educated purchasers by further raising the profile of the procurement profession in the labour market," van der Kooi said. The demand for highly educated purchasers is said to be occurring all over the Netherlands, but the largest growth can be seen in Friesland, Fevoland and Overijssel. The Randstad region saw the least growth in demand for buyers.
Flexible employment contracts
Employers mainly post vacancies offering employment of a temporary nature. In 28 per cent of cases, the employment is temporary. In 22 per cent of vacancies, it is an interim or self-employed position. This is a considerable increase compared to the third quarter of 2015, when the number of 'flexible' vacancies was 40 per cent.
