Dutch campers in Uden can now have their groceries delivered to the campsite, where Jumbo opened its first Camping Pick Up Point.
Guests at De Pier campsite who place an order online can pick up their groceries at the Pick Up Point, near the campsite entrance, between 5pm and 6pm the next day. In refrigerated crates, the groceries will be delivered there.
The idea to start a Camping Pick Up Point came from Jumbo entrepreneur Roland de Laak from Uden. He saw an increase in customers in his shop who were staying at a campsite nearby during the summer, which led to the idea of bringing groceries to camping customers.
The Pick Up Point will be open throughout the summer. After the summer period, the Pick Up Point will be evaluated, after which it may be extended to other campsites in the future. Jumbo now has 360 Pick Up Points.
Second e-commerce DC Jumbo
Last month, it was announced that Jumbo is busy building a second e-fulfilment centre. With the new distribution centre in Raalte, Jumbo wants to accommodate the rapid growth it is experiencing online. In 2016, Jumbo already doubled the capacity of its current e-commerce DC in Den Bosch from 12,000 to 30,000 square metres, but according to Frits van Eerd, managing director of Jumbo, the supermarket chain will grow out of this distribution centre in the course of next year. This is earlier than expected. The new distribution centre will be commissioned in spring 2018
