Jumbo has opened a new distribution centre for flowers in Veghel. Due to the rising popularity of bouquets, supermarket chain had grown out of its previous location.
Doubling capacity
The new premises in Veghel were opened on Tuesday by Kitty van Eerd, wife of founder Karel van Eerd. The location covers five thousand square metres, double the capacity in the building on the Zuidkade. This allows Jumbo not only to meet growing demand, but also to accommodate seasonal peaks.
"The crowds at the distribution centre and flower shop in Veghel have increased significantly. Thanks to the new location, Jumbo can expand the production lines while working to the highest product and safety standards," Jumbo writes in a press release.
Production of bouquets
In the distribution centre, the focus is on the production of bouquets. Jumbo buys flowers and plants directly from growers. In the new distribution centre, the flowers are cut on an automated conveyor belt and then hand-processed into bouquets by binders. The conveyor then automatically places the rubber band and packaging material before the bouquets go to the shops.
