Supermarket chain Lidl is looking for 1,200 employees to pick and pack online orders at its new e-commerce distribution centre.
The first 'official' pile of the new DC to be built was driven into the ground last week. The building will have an area of 58,000 square metres and 52 loading docks. Next April, the DC will be fully operational. From the building, Lidl will handle the fulfilment of all non-food online orders in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and northern France. Only in these countries Lidl operates a webshop.
The construction will be handled by Delin Capital Asset Management. Lidl will keep the operations in its own hands and will also recruit its own staff. To BN de Stem, the discounter says it will first do so in the region. It may contact the municipality of Roosendaal to do so.
Alderman Hans Verbraak told Omroep Brabant that at least half of the jobs must come from the region. Despite tightness on the labour market, the alderman expects sufficient staff to be available for the new distribution centre. At neighbouring Primark, the first vacancy already attracted 500 responses from the region. "I expect it will be no different at Lidl," he said.
