The upcoming edition of trade fair Logistica will not take place in 2018, but in 2017. Because the logistics market is so subject to change, a triennial event no longer suffices, according to organisers Jaarbeurs and Stichting Logistica. "For buyers in these times, it is crucial to be faster and better informed about available applications," said brand manager Martijn de Weerd.

Rapid developments in ICT and technology have a strong impact on efficiency and speed within logistics, but also on functions and employment. In addition, the huge growth of e-commerce is increasing demand for fine-grained and fast distribution. "Developments are happening at lightning speed and are structurally changing markets and thus supply chains. As a supplier, you have to be able to provide for this," De Weerd explains the choice of a biennial fair. Not only the transformation of the market, but also the crowded national and international calendar in 2018 played a role in the decision of Stichting Logistica and Jaarbeurs to organise Logistica in 2017.

Market approach
Like the previous edition, Logistica 2017 will focus primarily on intralogistics and materials handling. Due to developments in the market, the exhibition will also provide a platform for players in logistics services and distribution, including urban distribution, the last mile and logistics hubs. De Weerd comments: “Logistica is unique when it comes to intralogistics and materials handling. Due to market developments, visitors are also asking for other areas of focus, such as logistics services and distribution solutions.”

Three principles: Compact, Content and Concrete
Jaarbeurs and Stichting Logistica are aiming for a 'compact' trade fair next edition, which is reflected in the opening of three days instead of four. The stand size per exhibitor will be capped, in order to optimise the return on participation. "We asked visitors and exhibitors what their preference was. This showed that they were in favour of an effective three-day fair," de Weerd said. The fair will remain open daily until 7pm. "That is a bit unorthodox, but we think it could be a method to attract the right visitors at the right time."

Content has a big role to play at the upcoming Logistica. With all the developments in the industry, Logistica wants to develop into a platform for knowledge transfer. Knowledge sessions focusing on the themes move, store, pick & deliver will be held in four theatres during the exhibition. These same themes will also be reflected in the four ranges that will be set up, so that innovative applications will be portrayed as concretely and practically as possible. "Visitors don't just want to see products. They also come for solutions and example projects. The Scala Logistica's respond to this and will be further expanded in 2017."

Logistica will take place from 28 to 30 November at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, simultaneously with ICT & Logistiek. Exhibitors can register from Monday 3 October 2016.
