A strike at Bax-shop's warehouse is costing the company eleven employees dearly. The warehouse workers were told after their strike that they do not have to come back to work for the time being. Their passes were even reportedly blocked.

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the warehouse workers decided to stop working out of dissatisfaction with the many night shifts they had to work. Indeed, according to the employees, it had been unilaterally decided from the management that the inbound department had to work full-time during night shifts indefinitely. An employee of Bax-shop tells PZC that this was the last straw. That did not go down well with the warehouse manager. In an e-mail to the employees, he told them he felt pretty let down. In doing so, he also wrote that the employees had been scheduled out for the time being. This is possible, as the employees have zero hours contracts through temporary employment agency Rapaat Logistics BV.

'Not just going home'
Director Jochanan Bax stated that the employees could not just go home if they did not feel up to it for a while. Employees would have to work many night shifts because of an expensive machine the company bought a few years ago. "We can only recoup that if it is on continuously," he says. The gaps in the schedule have been filled over the next few days through a temp agency," Bax told PZC. Bax thinks the warehouse manager's approach is wise, but also advocates that the suspended employees should be allowed to return after a personal interview.
