Medical technology company Medtronic is building a new 33 thousand square metre distribution centre in Heerlen. With the new DC, Medtronic expects to reach 15 thousand different hospitals in Europe within 24 hours.

This week, Medtronic and logistics provider CEVA Logistics kicked off construction. The new distribution centre is dedicated to the storage and distribution of Medtronic's medical devices such as implants, surgical products and patient monitoring systems. Due to its proximity to Europe and the many medical logistics activities already being carried out in the region, Medtronic speaks of a very favourable location. "We strive to deliver, in all circumstances, to all our customers and patients and the unique geographical location of this new facility can accommodate the expected growth in Europe. We look forward to expanding our presence in the region," said Sikko Zoer, Vice President Customer Care and Supply Chain of Medtronic EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Real estate company WDP is responsible for the construction of the DC. The building will be commissioned in mid-2017.
