German nuts specialist Hewi G. Winker is having a silo warehouse 57 metres long and 25 metres high built. The automated high-bay warehouse will have 9,888 pallet locations and feature just three aisles. Hewi G. Winker engaged Jungheinrich for the realisation of the high-bay warehouse and automation.
The warehouse will be located in Spaichingen (southern Germany), where Hew's current site is also located. With the new location, Hewi hopes to double its sales, managing director Markus Hänssler says of the new building.
Hewi opted for a silo construction, with the warehouse racks supporting the roof and wall elements of the building. This allows the building to be realised in a short time. In fact, the site will be occupied as early as next autumn.
Pallets in the new warehouse are stored double-deep in the three aisles. Three warehouse cranes from Mias store the pallets in and out. The cranes achieve a capacity of 93 doubles per hour. Conveyors take care of the supply and removal. The entire logistics system is controlled with Jungheinrich WMS software and material flow controllers. Six AGVs will be used for the supply of raw materials to the production lines and for the removal of containers of finished product towards storage, which will be linked to the WMS. Other transport tasks, such as loading and unloading trucks, will be handled by manual stackers.
Hewi is also tackling the already existing production site, which produces seven million nuts and extruded parts per day. Here, Jungheinrich is implementing truck guidance software to increase the productivity of the existing manual forklift fleet.
