Fulfilment company Montapacking is opening its eighth logistics branch in Breda, this time for customer Dekbed-Discounter.nl. Unlike many other logistics providers, Montapacking chooses a branch of compact size. "We find that the commitment of a smaller organisation is greater," he says.
Montapacking, which provides fulfilment for 465 online shops, grew by 60 per cent in the first quarter of 2018. Dekbed-Discounter.nl is one of the e-commerce company's fastest-growing customers. In four years, Dekbed-Discounter.nl grew from sales of 525,000 euros to 20 million euros; with an expected sales growth in 2018 of 280 per cent. Montapacking therefore decided to set up a full fulfilment warehouse for the home textile webshop.
Scalability
The new location in Breda covers an area of 18,000 square metres. Dekbed-Discounter.nl expects to continue to double in sales in the coming years. "Then an efficient fulfilment operation is vital. Not only in terms of stock management, but also if we have campaigns on TV that are a huge success every time, our partner must be able to respond to that," says founder Niels Verwij.
Compact branch versus mega-warehouse
Including the new location, Montapacking has 55,000 square metres of warehouse space. That area is spread across eight locations. According to Edwin van der Ham, director at Montapacking, this is a deliberate choice: "We very deliberately choose more compact branches, because we experience that the involvement of a smaller organisation is greater, which allows each operation to operate optimally efficient and faster, and customer satisfaction is higher."
Van der Ham says this is a requirement because Montapacking promises customers a 99.98 per cent performance. "We feel we can best achieve that by combining a top-notch culture with smart IT systems. With the deployment of artificial intelligence, we can predict at 4 o'clock in the afternoon already with high accuracy what will be sold in the evening at all 'our' 465 webshops. We can then plan our capacity requirements accordingly."
