Except for Singapore, the Netherlands is the best trading country in the world. This high position our country owes mainly to its port infrastructure, its position as a hub for air traffic and its good road network.

This can be read in the Global Enabling Trade Report 2016, by the World Economic Forum and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation. The parties rate countries based on the functioning of governments, policies, infrastructure and trade facilitation support services. The Netherlands is also said to have stood out for its geographical connectivity with the rest of Europe. Improvement is possible in the area of import procedures. These would be too complex. Moreover, there is limited access to finance in the Netherlands.

Interest group evofenedex stresses on its website the importance of investing in trade and logistics to ensure this trade position. Evofenedex has drawn up a 10-point plan, which police parties can add to the programme. The shippers' organisation calls on political parties to use this plan to set their course.
