Supermarket chain Hoogvliet is building a new distribution centre in Bleiswijk. To this end, it has purchased a thirteen-hectare plot of land on the Prisma industrial estate.
Hoogvliet will start construction of the largely automated distribution centre in 2018, with the logistics centre expected to be commissioned in 2020. Dry groceries as well as fresh, agf and frozen items will be processed there. Returnable packaging will also take place there. It will also house Hoogvliet's central butcher's shop, as well as the bakery that has already been operating on the new site since 2016. Finally, the new site will accommodate Hoogvliet's service centre.
Integration of departments
Hoogvliet aims to keep distribution and logistics costs as low as possible with the new distribution centre and the integration of various departments. 'A new logistics backbone for the future', Hoogvliet calls its plans. The supermarket chain with 67 physical branches has set itself the goal of becoming the most-attractive omni-channel supermarket within its market area.
In 2020, Hoogvliet will close the doors of its current DC in Alphen aan den Rijn. Hoogvliet wants to take as many employees as possible with it to the new location. Training courses should prepare them for the new distribution and service centre.
For the realisation of the logistics building, Hoogvliet is working together with Arcadis and Witron, with Arcadis providing programme management, building design and construction supervision. System integrator Witron is supplying the logistics design.
