From Thursday 20 August, employers will have to comply with the revamped driving and rest time regulations set out in the Mobility Package. One of the main changes involves drivers having to return to their home town once every three or four weeks.

After three years of negotiations, in July the European Parliament gave the green light for the introduction of the Mobility Package, which means that in the next few years the transport sector will have to deal with new European rules on driving and resting times, cabotage and posting. In doing so, the European Commission aims, among other things, to combat PO box companies, put an end to systematic cabotage and improve working conditions for drivers in international transport.

The first changes go into effect as early as 20 August, for example, from that date employers must start organising work in such a way that drivers can return to their home or operating base once every three or four weeks.

Branch organisation TLN has put all the changes and effective dates in an overview.
