The side-flow trajectory seeking 2,000 truck drivers has already yielded around 1,000 young drivers. So says industry organisation TLN. There is still room for 1,000 side-flowers. Thanks to a scheme of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and the SOOB, employee and employer both only have to pay 10 per cent of the training costs.

TLN notes a growing need for new drivers on its own website. This is worrying as a large group of drivers will retire in the next few years. TLN is working with the Ministry of SZW to take measures in order to attract new drivers.

The industry organisation advises companies to make use of the subsidy scheme. "We think this, together with the Transport and Logistics Sector Institute, is a formula for success. We predicted three years ago that there would be a driver shortage. There are transport companies that currently already have 50 to 100 vacancies. This side entry project then offers a solution."
