The European Commission intends to improve legislation for the road transport sector in Europe. The commission is currently sounding out the need for legislative change in the area of access to profession and market.
TLN, among others, has previously stated that the way things are currently regulated is not equally fair. For instance, there would still be too many differences between European member states. European laws would not always be interpreted and enforced the same. TLN previously presented a 13-point plan to address this inequality. TLN: "We call for clear explanations of existing laws and regulations to create a fairer and more level playing field for transport entrepreneurs in Europe."
Points for improvement
The European Commission has already indicated that it is aware of these disparities and now intends to address them. This will initially be done through a consultation that will first address the two main EU regulations: access to the market (1071) and access to the profession (1072). The European Commission wants to examine which points need improvement and further tighten the law accordingly. TLN has already indicated its participation in the consultation.
